I got Mr. Peepers June of 1995. He was a gift from a dear friend after the tragic loss of Walter that previous May. Instantly, we were buddies. At this time, I was not interested in coursing or much of any dog events because of what happened to Walter, but Peepers was my best friend. Like Walter, he was there for me during the hard times of Junior High/High school. Peepers was VERY serious about his walks. We went every day around the lake at Central Park. He would get annoyed if I stopped to talk to anyone. Peepers was also our first Whippet that liked water. Many summers we spent at Lake Josephine playing frisbee in the water. Sadly, when Peepers turned 5, he got really really sick. After many tests it was discovered his liver was a wreck and full of shunts. He was bloated and uncomfortable. I was not about to give up, since I lost my OTHER dog way too early. We saw a Holisitic/Herbalistic vet and with her herbal supplements and energy treatments, Peepers had 2 more years of normal living. He was done racing, but he was happy just walking and running in the park. This didn’t last though, his body was broken, and on October 1st, 2001, we had to say our final goodbyes….oh how I miss that black and white dog….
